Impressions: Valiant Hearts- The War Game Everybody Should Play

As we are coming up on American Veteran’s Day, and it’s been 8 years since this game was released, I wanted to talk about Valiant Hearts. It isn’t the first time I have written about this game, and it likely won’t be the last. I believe it is a truly powerful game with a fairly unique take on “War Games” and the messaging. It would probably be better served for me to do this around a European version of Veteran’s Day, but as an American, I thought it might be fitting here too. I will warn everybody that there will be spoilers, but I still think, even reading those, that everybody should give the game a chance.

Valiant Hearts is set during World War I, and the writers of the game even took inspiration from real letters written between soldiers and their loved ones while creating this game. That note is part of what makes this game what it is, a game more focused on the individuals fighting the war and the pain and sacrifice that they go through.
