I have lived in New Mexico on and off for a number of years, but I don’t feel like I have truly experienced the state. I don’t know how much longer I will live here, so before I move there are a few places that I would really like to go.
Carlsbad Caverns
I can’t believe I’ve never actually been to the Caverns. It’s supposed to be a wonderful experience and it’s really a shame on me that I haven’t done it yet.
Bisti
This is kind of a rough one to take. There are no services at all. However, it seems breathtaking and totally worth the trip.
Narrows Rim Trail
This is something to do when I get more in shape. It’s a hiking trail that is supposed to be pretty amazing. That being said it’s also 8 miles (four each way). Despite it’s length it’s actually not supposed to be that difficult, just long. I would love to get in shape and give this a go.
White Sands
I have seen White Sands, but I’ve never really “gone” to White Sands. It would be nice to do more than just pass it on the road and say, “Oh look how cool”.
Morphy Lake State Park
I hadn’t actually heard of this until I started doing more research for this blog post. I love the water and don’t get enough of it. I have been to a few of our lakes in New Mexico so I would like to experience a different one.
Fox Cave
I will admit this seems a little kitsch and is more a “maybe” on my list than an “oh I must”. However, it does seem unique and like it might be enjoyable. If it’s on the way to anything else I would like to experience in New Mexico then it could be worth the stop.
Living Desert Zoo and Gardens
This is a rather small zoo, but it is entirely focused on animals from the area. It is also conveniently located near one of the other places on this list.
Smokey Bear Historical Park
I have actually been here before. It’s rather small, but I am sure that if I planned it there is more I could do in the area. Plus it’s Smokey you gotta love Smokey!
Petroglyph National Monument
This is extremely close to me and I have not been in a rather long time. I think it would be great to experience it again now that I am older.
There are more places in my state worth seeing, but this is a good early list. With any luck you should be seeing blog posts and pictures from my experiences in these places. If you know of anything else in New Mexico that is a must let me know! Also share some of your favorite places to visit in your own state.
New Mexico is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited. You should definitely look into going. They also filmed Breaking Bad in Albuquerque. 🙂

Oh hey sorry I should have been more clear. I actually live in New Mexico currently. I have seen a lot of the state but my husband and I are considering moving in the next let’s say 2-5 years so I just want to make sure that I get these experiences in before I leave. I do have to agree New Mexico is beautiful. I have my complaints as a citizen but none of them are about our natural beauty. And yes I know a number of people involved in Breaking Bad. However if you do ever visit this state I would say that Albuquerque should not be your main focus. It has some cool features but we have much more beautiful places in this state. ❤
